PHILLIP R. BREWER, PRESIDENT
Mr. Brewer studied Business Administration at Midwestern State University, and has worked in the field of environmental services since 1988. He is currently responsible for oversight of Alpha’s commercial and residential service practices. His range of expertise includes strategic planning, project management, client services, and regulatory compliance. He is an EPA designated Environmental Professional.
Mr. Brewer has more than 23 years of experience performing individual and multi-site environmental site assessments of industrial, commercial and residential properties throughout the western United States for a wide range of clients from the financial, real estate, legal, and government sectors. He has managed complex projects for several high-profile clients, including Sandia National Laboratories, the State of Oregon, Port of Portland, Multnomah County, and City of Portland, as well as numerous large private corporations. His understanding of client needs and practical approach to project management has resulted in significant savings of time and resources for our clients.
JIM COOPER, REGISTERED GEOLOGIST
Mr. Cooper has a Bachelors Degree in Geology from Sacramento State University. He has been a Registered Geologist in the State of Oregon (#G2203) since 2008. He also has the following certifications: Washington State Licensed Geologist (2701), California State Professional Geologist and 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
Mr. Cooper has more than 16 years experience in various phases of environmental assessments, environmental site investigations, and geotechnical management for a diverse group of clients in Oregon, Washington and California. He oversees and performs subsurface soil and groundwater testing for a variety of environmental issues for Alpha. His diverse experience and strong technical skills enable him to accurately assess on-site conditions for a wide range of environmental projects.
SAID AMALI, CONSULTING ENGINEER
Dr. Amali has a doctorate in Environmental Soil Physics and is an Oregon registered Professional Engineer (73450PE) with more than 18 years of experience in environmental contamination assessment and remediation. He has provided technical support to assessments of stormwater quality associated with combustion byproducts, land application of industrial and food processing wastewaters, presence and environmental dispersal of emerging contaminants in wastewater, natural attenuation processes for industrial chemicals, environmental and human health risk assessments, and to hydrologic assessments of recharge and loading of contaminants to groundwater.
Dr. Amali has additional extensive background in the development, execution, and evaluation of groundwater resources investigations including quantitative hydrogeology and natural resource evaluations. He has conducted many watershed and basin-scale projects involving evaluations of groundwater flow and availability for water supply development, aquifer storage and recovery opportunities, hydrologic balance estimations of sustainable groundwater yields, surface water-groundwater interactions, groundwater quality associated with point- and non-point-pollution sources, impacts on fisheries resource, and water rights. He focuses on development of sustainable and high quality scientific solutions that serve the business community, agricultural users, and local governments. He conducts long range strategic planning and plan implementation oversight for his clients, and helps them develop appropriate metric tools to gauge success of their projects. Dr. Amali has excellent communication and presentation skills.
WAYNE BENNETT, PHYSICIST & RISK ASSESSOR/DATA ANALYST
Mr. Bennett has over ten years of experience in the environmental industry as a risk assessor, data analyst, analytical laboratory data validation professional, mold remediator, and technical writer and editor. Wayne is a key member of Alpha and his current areas of expertise include site specific risk assessments, analysis and interpretation of scientific data, technical writing and work as an Excel, Access, and Visual Basic data analyst. He is also a licensed Oregon Soil Matrix Supervisor and Heating Oil Tank Supervisor.
Mr. Bennett’s experience in other industries includes education, software support and documentation, and mass properties engineering. Wayne holds a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics from Utah State University and is a former mathematics teacher. He has previously worked on large complex projects such as an EPA Superfund site involving a former mining facility in Colorado, an EPA Superfund site in New Mexico involving high concentrations of volatile organic compounds volatizing into buildings, the oversight and inspections regarding impacts to environmentally sensitive areas in Government Camp, Oregon as well as numerous other complex environmental issues.
RODOLFO GOMEZ, ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL
Mr. Gomez has over five years of experience in performing Phase I environmental site assessments of commercial and residential properties with Alpha. Mr. Gomez is licensed as a Lead Based Paint Risk Assessor with the State of Oregon (license #3842) and a Certified Asbestos Inspector (license #1025823). He has an engineering degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the University of Vera Cruz and is Professional Engineer in Mexico. He is currently in the process of receiving his Professional Engineer designation for Oregon.
Previous experience also includes direct participation in safety and environmental aspects of nuclear power generation as Mechanical Systems Engineer for the “Laguna Verde” Nuclear Power Station in Vera Cruz, Mexico.
Mr. Gomez is fluent in Spanish, English, and French and acts as an interpreter in particular when Alpha is involved in projects where there are Spanish-speaking tenants. He is an accomplished speaker and is well versed in the International Industry Standards and Regulations.
JOSEPH JENSEN, PROJECT DIRECTOR
Mr. Jensen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental studies from the University of Oregon. His primary professional expertise includes conducting Phase I and Phase II commercial property transaction assessments for environmental issues, indoor air quality analysis, mold remediation, as well as decommissioning of underground storage tanks. Mr. Jensen is a Certified Mold Remediation specialist, and underground storage tank decommissioning supervisor with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Mr. Jensen also has additional specialization in structural water intrusion issues. In addition Mr. Jensen has three years experience performing Phase I ESAs for commercial property transactions. During his tenure with PRK, Mr. Jensen’s expertise in environmental compliance, indoor air quality issues and mold remediation has significantly expanded the range of environmental services available to our clients. He is a Registered Environmental Assessor, California Department of Toxic Substances Control (2010)
RICHARD A. CASON, DIRECTOR OF FIELD SERVICES
Prior to his tenure with Alpha, Mr. Cason served with the U.S. Navy Seabees for over 18 years, where he acquired many of the skills that have become vital to the continued success of our company. Specifically, Mr. Cason developed an extensive background in environmental management and remediation, serving as the department hazardous waste and hazardous materials manager, as well as director of the emergency spill response and hazardous waste disposal units. Additionally, Mr. Cason developed a solid background in civil engineering, and served as a construction safety inspector with specialties in trenching and excavation safety.
Mr. Cason has been an employee of Alpha since the beginning of the company; he has continually taken a leading role in developing the framework for technical field services currently implemented by Alpha. Since becoming NEHA-NRPP accredited in 2003, he has designed and installed over 300 radon and vapor intrusion mitigation systems in Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, involving multiple constituents of concern, VOC’s, and radon. Mr. Cason has proven to be one of the most knowledgeable and highly skilled individuals in vapor reduction design and implementation in the country. Mr. Cason also provides clients with a wide range of heating oil tank services, including underground storage tank location, sampling, and remediation, as well as above-ground storage tank installation.
PAUL DUFRESNE, CHEMIST
Mr. DuFresne came to Alpha after spending 25 years in the commercial and residential real estate profession. His background as a chemist was founded in his Bachelor of Chemistry at OREGON STATE UNIVERISTY in 1978. His dual experience in both real estate and science have provided familiarity with a diverse range of environmental issues, and vision of how to handle any potential issues. It is this experience that gives Mr. DuFresne an ideal background and understanding to prepare detailed Phase I ESA’s that will benefit a client with the critical information regarding a property assessment. Mr. DuFresne’s previous professions give unique insight and understanding of environmental issues affecting real estate transactions.
ERICK GONZALEZ, FIELD SUPERVISOR
Mr. Gonzalez began working in the environmental field for Alpha since 2005. He started as a field technician and has since become well-educated in the environmental field while developing his technical skills to become an expert in USTs as well as in mold inspection and remediation. Mr. Gonzalez coordinates all personnel and all remediation project details for all UST and mold projects, while performing site investigations at other properties with potential risk for these environmental issues. Mr. Gonzalez has worked closely with engineers, geologists, and risk-assessors in performing site assessments for a large number of commercial and residential properties in Portland and the greater Northwest. Mr. Gonzalez is a licensed HOT Supervisor and an accredited mold inspector and remediation technician. Mr. Gonzalez is fluent in both English and Spanish.
ZACHARY GOODMAN, PROJECT MANAGER
Mr. Goodman has been at Alpha for three years after coming from Idaho to work in the environmental consulting sector. He spent 2 years at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality working in the Engineering group, working with the Staff Engineers in reviewing projects regulatory compliance. During his tenure with Alpha, he has worked in all types of residential and commercial projects including underground storage tanks, radon testing and mitigation, mold remediation, and assisted on Phase I and Phase II ESA’s. He currently coordinates the residential day-to-day operations and is studying environmental science at Marylhurst University while working with Alpha and helping to coordinate Alpha’s residential projects. He is also a licensed Oregon DEQ Heating Oil Tank Supervisor.
SCOTT NANCE, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE INTERN
Mr. Nance is in his senior year at Portland State University and is expected to complete his Bachelor of Environmental Science, with a minor in Environmental Geology in Spring of 2012. His coursework has included environmental risk assessment, geochemistry, water quality, environmental health, Geographic Information Systems for natural sciences, chemistry, biology, and physics. Mr. Nance is a member of the Oregon Association of Environmental Professionals, and assists Alpha’s staff with all aspects of commercial projects.
