Cleanup of Heating Oil Tank – SW Portland

Alpha completed site cleanup to address soil and groundwater contamination from a leaking underground storage tank. Based on the contaminant levels, soil removal was required before the site could be closed with a risk-based study including vapor intrusion analysis with a soil-gas sample. In spite of the removal of almost 25 tons of contamination and a sewer line running over the top of the excavation, Alpha was able to restore the site to conditions which became almost undetectable by the time the house sold less than 3 months later.

Decommissioning of Heating Oil Tank in R-O-W – NE Portland

Alpha decommissioned an underground heating oil tank by removal which was located in the City Right of Way. Based on the depth of the tank being less than 5 feet below surface grade, the City of Portland required that the tank be removed. A series of three gas lines ran above the tank, but Alpha was able to safely decommission the tank by removal without any impact to the lines. Alpha performed assessment for a leaking underground heating oil tank which had impacted groundwater. Alpha removed approximately 20 tons of soil, pumped out and disposed of over 4,000 gallons of water, performed a groundwater delineation consisting of downgradient, crossgradient, and upgradient groundwater sampling, a beneficial water use study and risk assessment. Alpha backfilled the excavation and compacted the soil under the oversight and approval of a geotechnical firm to insure that potential soil settling would be minimal.

Using structural engineering controls, Alpha was able to remove the majority of the contamination, and successfully completed the cleanup without having to impact the interior of the building.
